More Men Are Getting Botox Treatments

We weren’t surprised to read that the recession has triggered a sharp decline in the cosmetic surgery industry – especially among women. What is surprising is that the number of people getting Botox treatments is actually on the rise, and according to a new report we found in Time magazine, it’s mostly men leading the surge. As you may know, Botox is the world’s most common cosmetic procedure, one that uses a series of tiny injections in the face to smooth out wrinkles. Each Botox session can cost $500 or more, and it’s simple enough that many doctors now offer Botox facelifts during your lunch break!

While women continue to be the industry’s top customers, the number of North American men getting Botox has tripled in recent years! In fact, so many guys are lining up for the treatment these days that doctors are giving it new nicknames – like “Boy-tox” or “manscaping.” However, unlike women, experts say that guys aren’t obsessed with Botoxing away every last wrinkle on their face. Instead, they mostly concentrate on the vertical lines that develop between the eyebrows, or on the forehead – the ones which make a guy look angry or confused if he tenses his face. While some people would argue that those features help make a guy look more masculine, a growing number of men are convinced the lines simply make them look old!

Doctors add that guys are far more cautious than women about not overdoing Botox. In other words, they don’t want to wind up with that “frozen face look” - which some say is a dead-giveaway that you’ve had work done. Men prefer to have just enough Botox to look refreshed, while still being able to show some expression on their face. Whatever their reasoning, the bottom line is this: Even in a tough economy, people still worry about their looks. Thanks to a growing number of men, experts believe Botox is one industry that may turn out to be recession-proof.
