Men and Money

Debit or Credit Card?
Here’s a guide, from the consumer protection website CreditCards.com:

•When shopping online. Susan Tiffany is a director of the Credit Union National Association. She says that debit cards are linked directly to your bank account. So, if that information is hijacked, you can get cleaned out. However, credit cards have a cap on how much you’re liable for if some hacker gets your information.

•When buying big-ticket items. Credit cards offer more protection if something goes wrong with your purchase. Many credit cards increase the manufacturer’s warranty or offer other insurance at no additional cost.

•The 3rd time to choose credit over debit: When a deposit’s required. Peter Garuccio is a spokesman for the American Bankers Association. He says that hotels, car rental companies, and equipment rental firms will place a hold on your card equal to the amount of the deposit. That means if you use a debit card, you won’t have access to the money in your bank account until the hold clears. You don’t want renting a carpet shampooer to bounce your check to the electric company.

•Use a credit card when you book airplane or train tickets in advance. When you use a debit card to book future travel, the money’s taken out of your account that day. If you use a credit card, the charges won’t appear until you actually take the trip.

Provocative Benefits of Working Out

We’re a broken record on this. You’ve got to exercise most days of the week to stay healthy and ward off depression. If that’s not enough to motivate you, here are five more ways exercise benefits us, courtesy of Prevention magazine.

•First, and possibly importantly, you’ll live longer. People who exercise rigorously have longer telomeres. What are telomeres? They’re a piece of your DNA that’s responsible for how quickly your cells regenerate – and as you age, your telomeres get shorter. However, people who exercise have longer telomeres, get fewer diseases and live longer.

•Next, exercise helps keep your brain intact. Yes, exercise can lower the risk of Alzheimer’s in older people, but if you’re not near retirement age – exercise can still help prevent brain fog in younger people. In a study, Japanese researchers separated a group of couch-potato 20-year olds into two groups – one took aerobics classes and the other group didn’t. After four months, MRIs showed that the non-exercisers had experienced shrinkage in gray matter in some areas of the brain. Those who worked out had no changes.

•Another benefit of exercise is that it reduces inflammation. Chronic inflammation is a major factor in the formation of blood clots that block the blood flow to your heart. When sedentary, obese women in their 50s started working out, they lowered their levels of chronic inflammation by 10% in just a year.

•Exercise can also be a key in helping people survive breast cancer. Exercise not only reduces your risk of getting breast cancer, it can also help you survive if you get it. Overweight women who were exercising more than three hours a week before they were diagnosed were almost 50 percent less likely to die than those who exercised less before the diagnosis.

•Finally, exercise can help you stop smoking. In a recent study, researchers found that smokers were less interested in smoking after spending 15 minutes on an exercise bike than they were when they weren’t exercising.

pwfm: Did you know?

Did you know?
Lube is the key to good anal sex. But you don't necessarily need to use a vat of it every time.

I highly recommend getting a silicone-based lubricant for anal sex. Water based lubricants can dry out and make things stickier and messier than they need to be. A good silicone-based lubricant like Eros or Wet Platinum will work wonders.

It only takes a small amount and you will be lubricated for hours. I was sold the day I went to buy some lube and the guy at the store put a small drop on my fingers. He told me to rub them together and to come back when it wore off. Thirty minutes later, I was at the cash register.

If you are going to use water-based lubricant, more isn't necessarily better. Water-based lubes dry out as they evaporate. Keep a small bottle of water next to the bed. Sometimes instead of more lubricant you just need to reactivate the lube you have with a couple of drops of water.

I like to use a misting bottle as the sensation of a cool mist of water both helps to keep the lubricant active, but also feels good on your partner and helps them relax. A nice mist can be quite sexual and adds to the overall effect of taking your partner into consideration.
