Fashion Friday

The Overcoat Rules
Should you wear a casual coat with a suit or sport coat?
Designer: Yohji Yamamoto
In today's fashion-frenzied world, the lines between formalwear and sportwear are more blurred than ever before.Over the past decade the best designers have championed such seemingly schizophrenic looks as a three-quarter-length hooded parka with a pinstriped suit and tie. It is all about how you put it together.
Still unsure? Consider these no-fail tips:Don't wear a coat that is shorter than your suit coat. The bottom of your coat should extend at least to the bottom of your suit coat, preferably an inch or two longer. So you should leave the leather bomber jacket in the closet or cockpit. DO wear a coat with sleeves longer than your suit coat. Your topcoat should also be roomy enough so you can move around comfortably with the suit jacket underneath. A car coat, a three-quarter-length collard leather jacket, or a longer parka is okay too.
They can all add an element of cool to your straitlaced suit.
The Overcoats and outfits shown here are from several different designers from the 2006 fall collection.
